Pumpkins~
@adamsappleweek
whoa! i got it finished it in time! i wanted to write more and i might come back to this idea later! but for now, enjoy a creepy pumpkin twist! hope you all like it!
For as long as Adam could recall, he had dwelled in the shadowy embrace of Hallow-Eve, a town steeped in autumn's eerie charm. He had never ventured beyond its mist-shrouded borders; his familyâs roots run deep in the soil of this peculiar place.
Even during their rare escapades, they merely retreated to the heart of the town, seeking solace at Miss Sera's Inn, where the air was thick with the whispers of the past. Hallow-Eve revelled in the spirit of Halloween year-round, its streets adorned with gnarled pumpkins and sinister decorations, dismissing the likes of Christmas or Easter. Instead, they celebrated with a chilling twistâexchanging sweets nestled in coffins for Easter and gathering around a 'dead tree' come winter, its branches draped with ghostly ornaments.
Adam had only ever known life on the town's enchanting pumpkin patch, a sprawling expanse of vibrant orange nestled among shadows, where townsfolk flocked daily in search of the most haunting harvests. While he supposed there was never a mundane moment amid the revelry, a weariness clung to him like a thick fog, suffocating his spirit.
He longed for the warmth of a traditional Christmas, the intoxicating aroma of a festive feast wafting through the air, instead of the relentless onslaught of skeletal decorations and pumpkin pies. Halloweenâs nightly escapades, filled with children donning ghastly costumes, left him yearning for the innocent delights of chocolate eggs and lavish dinners that never seemed to grace their table.
It was as if Hallow-Eve existed in an eternal autumn, with summer and winter shunning its gloomy charm. The trees stood in perpetual decay, their leaves a tapestry of gold and crimson, forever caught in the throes of a hauntingly beautiful fall, the air crisp and unyielding.
Leaning against a towering stack of pumpkins, Adam's piercing green eyes surveyed the patch, glistening under the pale light of a waning moon. In a matter of hours, families would arrive, their excitement palpable as they sought the most spine-chilling pumpkins to carve. His mother, with her uncanny knack for the macabre, often hosted spirited carving mornings, teaching eager youngsters the art of transforming innocent gourds into grotesque visages. Renowned for her chilling creations, she wielded her carving knife with a flair that sent shivers down spines, bringing the town's Halloween spirit to life in the most haunting of ways.
A black crow suddenly soared overhead, its ominous shadow flitting across the ground before it landed directly in front of Adam. With a haunting croak, the bird flapped its sleek, obsidian wings, bobbing its pointed head as if sizing him up. Adam frowned, a wry smirk creeping onto his lips as he regarded the feathered omen. âI donât suppose youâre here to warn me of misfortune?â he teased dryly. âBlack crows are notorious harbingers of bad luck.â
The crow squawked again, flapping its wings and pecking its long beak beneath its wing, as if unconcerned by Adamâs quips. Clicking his tongue in dismissal, Adam turned away, a soft hum escaping his lips. In Hallow-Eve, it was common knowledge that a black crowâs appearance foreshadowed calamity. His grandmother had been the sort to throw salt at the birds whenever they crossed her path, and donât even get him started on the folklore surrounding black cats.
Returning to his duties, Adam began inspecting the pumpkins, removing the rotting ones or the less desirable specimens. It was hard work, and while he had once relished tending to the vibrant gourds as a child, a suffocating boredom now clouded his enthusiasm. He craved something more, a taste of adventure beyond the confines of his routine.
âAdam!â a melodic voice called, pulling him from his reverie. His mother waved him over, beckoning him toward the towering wooden archway adorned with a macabre display of skulls and bone-like decorations.
âCan you come here for a moment?â
With a sigh, Adam straightened up, tugging off his gloves and tossing a small pebble aside. He approached the archway, the scent of damp earth and decaying leaves lingering in the cool air. As he emerged from the wall of pumpkins, he noticed three figures standing with his mother. One appeared noticeably shorter than the other two, and he squinted, trying to discern the peculiar scene.
âAdam, come meet our new neighbours!â His mother beamed, excitement dancing in her eyes. âTheyâve just moved in.â
Just moved in?
Adamâs eyebrows shot up at the revelation. Heâd never heard of anyone moving to or from Hallow-Eve; it was a town steeped in tradition, and this was utterly new.
âHi,â he mumbled, shifting to stand beside his mother.
He blinked awkwardly, taking in the sight before him. The shorter figure seemed older than the two taller females. The blonde girl, with her cascading golden curls and flawless porcelain skin, could easily be mistaken for royaltyâsave for the unsettlingly vibrant red of her lips and the strange way her cheeks seemed to glow. For a fleeting moment, he could have sworn they both had red circles on their cheeks and no noses, but when he blinked, they were just⊠normal.
Weird.
The other girl was a stark contrast, with her long, thick braids of purple and grey that cascaded down her shoulders. She was slightly shorter than the blonde, sporting a hooked nose and soft, grey eyes that held secrets. Her black lips curled into an expression that straddled the line between a smile and a frown, leaving Adam uncertain of her feelings.
âHello!â the shorter man exclaimed cheerfully, thrusting a gloved hand toward Adam. âNice to meet you! Iâve just moved in with my daughters!â
Adam hesitated, eyeing the manâs gloves, which appeared oddly oversized, hinting at something more claw-like beneath the soft fabric. When his mother nudged him with her elbow, he sighed and reluctantly extended his hand. He jolted in surprise as the manâs grip tightened around his, nearly yanking him off his feet.
âMy name is Lucifer!â the man declared, his eyes twinkling with mischief as a soft blush painted his cheeks. âThis is my daughter, Charlie!â
The blonde girl beamed widely, her eyes sparkling with an unsettling charm that sent shivers racing down Adamâs spine. Dazed from the force of Luciferâs handshake, he could only nod.
Charlie chirped, bouncing on her feet with an energy that felt almost infectious, âItâs nice to meet you!â
âAnd this is Vaggie, my daughterâs girlfriend, but Iâve taken her under my wing as my daughter as well!â Lucifer added, gesturing proudly to the purple-haired girl beside him. He flashed a bright grin at her, and Vaggie returned it with a delighted smile that still felt shrouded in mystery.
Adam slowly nodded, bewildered. He pulled his hand to his chest, stuttering slightly, âWait, did you say Lucifer? Like, the devil?â
The look on Luciferâs face sent a chill down Adamâs spine, his cherry-red lips curling back to reveal a row of sharp, gleaming teeth. His blue eyes sparkled with an unsettling allure, his long lashes fluttering as he leaned closer.
âYes,â he hissed, his forked tongue slipping between his lips in a way that made Adamâs heart race. âExactly~â
âBut donât worry, compared to what it looks like, he doesnât bite,â Charlie joked, a mischievous glint in her eye.
Lucifer gasped dramatically, turning to his daughter with mock horror. âDonât say that, Charlie! I like biting!â
The two burst into laughter, and even Adamâs mother joined in, her voice light and melodic. Vaggie, however, still smiled but facepalmed with a groan, leaving Adam feeling like an outsider in a bizarre joke he didnât quite understand. He took a step back, a strained smile plastered on his face as the odd energy radiating from the new family felt too peculiar to bear.
Luciferâs gaze bore into him, as if he were contemplating a delicious meal. As if reading Adam's thoughts, Charlie flashed a wide grin that revealed too many sharp teeth, her eyes gleaming like a predatory cat.
âUm, rightâŠâ Adam laughed awkwardly, glancing at his mother in disbelief.
His eyes screamed, âAre you seeing this bullshit?â but his mother seemed blissfully oblivious to the spectacle unfolding before her.
âEr, I... I think Iâll go... you know, get back to workâŠâ Adam stammered, desperate to escape from this sharp-toothed stranger who was eyeing him as though he were a delectable morsel. âBecause, you know, these pumpkins wonât prepare themselves for the kids.â
His mother shot him a look that was both perplexing and disconcerting, one he couldnât quite decipher and truly didnât want to. He took another awkward step back, raising a hand in a half-hearted wave toward his bizarre new neighbours, preparing to make his escape.
âOh! Please wait!â Charlie exclaimed, her delicate hand darting forward to grasp Adam's arm. Damn, she had her fatherâs strength, practically yanking him off his feet. âWeâre actually here to pick up a couple of pumpkins; you can help us choose some, right?â
Adamâs green eyes widened in disbelief, a knot of dread tightening in his stomach. That was the last thing he wanted. He had no intention of spending time with them, not at all!
âI have to be honest; we donât know a thing about pumpkins,â Lucifer chimed in cheerfully, perhaps a bit too cheerfully, his grin stretching wide enough to reveal his unnerving teeth. âWeâve got rocks for brains~â
Adamâs mouth opened in protest, the words of refusal hanging on his lips. He had too much work to do and didnât want to deal with them. But as he caught sight of his motherâs face, which brightened with an unexpected glimmer of relief, his resolve began to waver.
âOf course! Adam would be thrilled to help you all out, wouldnât you, Adam?â she said, her voice a strange mix of encouragement and something else he couldnât quite identify.
Faced with that knowing look, Adam felt his stubbornness melt away. His cheeks flushed crimson as he noticed all three of his new neighboursâ eyes fixed intently on him. With a deep, resigned sigh, he nodded, gesturing for them to follow.
âUm, sure, yes, just⊠follow me,â Adam mumbled quietly, his heart racing as he led the way into the patch, feeling the weight of their curious gazes on his back.
His skin prickled with unease, every hair on his body standing on end as he led the trio down the winding pumpkin patch trail. A palpable sense of danger loomed in the air, as if something predatory lurked just beyond his peripheral vision, ready to pounce. Fear coiled tightly in his throat, making it hard to swallow.
Adam felt like a timid mouse, surrounded by three hungry catsâeach one more menacing than the last. The weight of their gazes felt like a tangible force, pressing down on him, and he was filled with an overwhelming urge to bolt, to flee from the chilling atmosphere that seemed to thrum with unspoken threats. He had never experienced such a sensation before, the instinctive drive to escape prickling at his every nerve, urging him to run from the impending danger.
As Adam guided them into the sprawling rows of pumpkins, he couldnât shake the feeling that the ground beneath his feet was somehow shifting with each step, as if the earth itself were alive and aware. Charlieâs reaction was immediate and infectious. She gasped, her eyes widening like bright, gleaming orbs of wonder, and she squealed with pure delight that echoed through the crisp autumn air. Her smile was so radiant, so sweetly innocent, that for a fleeting moment, Adam found himself questioning whether he had judged them too harshly at first.
âLook at all the pumpkins!â Charlie exclaimed, her voice a melodious chime as she clasped Vaggieâs hand, practically bouncing on her toes. âTheyâre stunning! Absolutely perfect!â
Vaggie chuckled, a warm, rich sound that wrapped around Adam like a comforting shawl.
âCalm down, babe, or youâll lose your hair,â she teased, rolling her eyes affectionately.
Charlie pouted for a second before pressing a soft kiss on Vaggie's cheek, her exuberance bubbling over as she practically dragged her deeper into the patch, fully intent on selecting the finest pumpkins. Adam couldnât help but feel a twinge of sympathy for Vaggie, watching her struggle to keep up with Charlie's electrifying energy. Yet there was a glow on Vaggieâs face, a happiness that seemed to radiate like the golden autumn sun, making Adam second guess his first impression of her.
But as they ventured further into the patch, leaving Adam momentarily isolated, he suddenly realized he was not alone. The air around him felt charged, and he stiffened under the weight of Lucifer's gaze, intense and unwavering. Adam turned his head to meet those striking blue eyes, deep and captivating like twin oceans swirling with secrets. An involuntary shiver danced along his spine as Lucifer broke into a grin, one that sent a fluttering thrill through Adamâs chest.
âUm,â Adam stuttered, sheepishly smiling back, unsure of how to bridge the strange silence enveloping them.
Desperate to dispel the eerie tension, he glanced around, his eyes landing on another black crow that had landed behind Lucifer, its glossy feathers glinting ominously in the fading light. The crow flapped its wings, adding an unsettling rhythm to the moment.
Unable to endure the silence any longer, Adam blurted out, âSo, where did you live before moving to Hallow-Eve Town?â
Lucifer rocked on his heels, a low hum escaping his lips as he considered the question.
âSomewhere far away,â he mused, his voice smooth and melodious. âYouâve never been there before. Itâs not like Hallow-Eve.â
Intrigued, Adam pressed, âWhat do you mean?â
With a fondness that surprised Adam, Luciferâs gaze drifted across the autumnal landscape, lingering on the fiery hues of leaves swirling in the crisp breeze. âThe place I came from was very hot and humid. Itâs different from Hallow-Eve Town,â he replied, a soft smile tugging at his lips. âI like it very much.â
A chill skittered down Adam's spine at Luciferâs words, the way he spoke made the hairs on the back of Adamâs neck stand on end. âI canât say I agree with you,â he admitted awkwardly, forcing himself to maintain eye contact.
Instantly, Luciferâs expression sharpened, those azure eyes widening as they locked onto Adamâs. âYou donât like Hallow-Eve Town?â he asked, his tone almost conspiratorial, as if he had uncovered a secret. âDo you want to leave, then?â
The way he asked it felt like a victory, as if he had struck gold in the midst of their strange exchange. Adam felt a heat rise to his cheeks as he sheepishly shrugged, his voice barely above a whisper.
âYeah, I guess I donât want to stay here⊠I really want to leave.â
Luciferâs grin widened, revealing those sharp, gleaming teeth once more, as he leaned in slightly, his voice dripping with intrigue. âWhere would you go? Somewhere hot?â
Adam paused, a flutter of uncertainty swirling in his chest. Somewhere hot? He had never truly contemplated a destination, only the fervent desire to escape. He released a soft hum, his thoughts swirling like the autumn leaves dancing around them. The idea of venturing somewhere beyond the pumpkin patch, away from the creeping shadows of Hallow-Eve Town, ignited a flicker of hope within him.
âIâ I donât know,â he finally admitted, glancing away, as if the weight of Luciferâs gaze would pin him to the earth. âIâve just⊠always wanted to go.â
With that, the air thickened with unspoken possibilities, the autumn night closing in around them like a velvet curtain, leaving Adam teetering on the precipice of something both thrilling and terrifying.
Adam hesitated, a nervous chuckle escaping his lips as he shifted on his feet.
âYeah, maybe somewhere hot,â he mused aloud, letting his imagination wander. âI could see myself enjoying the sun... maybe a place where the warmth seeps into your bones and the nights are still.â
Luciferâs pleased hum broke through the crisp autumn air, almost like a purr of satisfaction. The sound was unsettling, too intimate, as though Adam had unknowingly revealed something far deeper than a passing thought.
Lucifer's piercing blue eyes never wavered from Adamâs face as he asked, his voice low and curious, âWould you ever come back? To visit your family, I mean.â
The question caught Adam off guard, and he frowned, giving Lucifer a strange look.
âOf course I would,â he replied, confusion lacing his tone. âI love my family. Sure, they can be a bit... much sometimes, but theyâre still my family.â
Luciferâs grin stretched wide, his sharp teeth glinting in the soft light of the fading day.
âI like that,â he said, his voice rich with approval. âA family man. Thatâs perfect.â
The way Lucifer said "perfect" made Adamâs skin crawl, a strange mixture of flattery and something darker curling around the word. It felt like there was a hidden layer beneath his words, something Adam wasnât catching. He opened his mouth to ask what Lucifer meant, but before he could, Charlieâs excited voice pierced the air.
âDad! Come here, youâve got to see these pumpkins!â she called, her voice like honey, dripping with enthusiasm.
Luciferâs grin deepened, and without a momentâs hesitation, he turned and strode toward his daughter, leaving Adam standing alone in a swirl of confusion. Adam stared after them, feeling a sense of unease creep into his bones. It was as though a vital piece of the puzzle had slipped through his fingers, something important, something he should have caught but didnât.
Awkwardly, he trailed after Lucifer, his steps slow and hesitant, his mind still trying to wrap itself around the strange interaction. His eyes flickered toward Vaggie, who was standing just beyond the rows of pumpkins, her purple-and-grey braids swaying slightly in the breeze. As his gaze met hers, he noticed something oddâher eyes held an emotion he hadnât expected: pity.
Adamâs confusion deepened, his brow furrowing. Why would she look at him like that? Did she know something he didnât? He wanted to ask, but the weight of her gaze made him feel even more out of place. He tore his eyes away from her, glancing back towards his house at the edge of the pumpkin patch.
His stomach twisted as he spotted his parents standing on the porch, their arms crossed, silhouettes dark against the dimming sky. He was too far away to make out their expressions, but something about their posture made a chill creep down his spine. They were just standing there, watchingâwatching him, Lucifer, the whole scene. The air around the house seemed to thrum with a strange, unsettling energy.
And then, as if drawn by some invisible force, Adamâs eyes lifted to the roof of the house. His breath caught in his throat.
A dozen black crows had gathered there, their sleek, inky feathers shimmering in the dying light. They stared down at him, silent and still, their dark eyes glinting like polished onyx. It was as if they were waiting for something, their presence an ominous, creeping shadow over the house. Adamâs heart hammered in his chest, a gnawing sense of dread settling in his gut.
âWhatâs going on?â he whispered to himself, the words barely audible.
The crows didnât move, their eerie stillness amplifying the strange, heavy atmosphere that had been building all afternoon.
Adamâs mind raced, the strangeness of it all closing in around him. He didnât know what was happening, but something in his gut told him this day wasnât like the others. Something was shifting, and he was at the centre of it, though he couldnât see howâor why.
He swallowed hard, feeling as though the world was watching him, waiting for him to make the next move. And as Luciferâs voice floated back to him on the breeze, that same low, pleased hum, Adam couldnât help but feel like he was being pulled deeper into something he didnât fully understand. Something dangerous, something he might not be able to escape from once it had fully wrapped its tendrils around him.
Adam was ripped from his spiralling thoughts at the sound of his name, the touch of a hand sending a jolt through his body like ice water down his spine. He jerked around, blinking furiously as his gaze landed on Lucifer, standing much too close for comfort, his hand resting lightly on Adamâs arm.
The touch burned, though it was cold, and Adam bit his bottom lip nervously, trying to suppress the strange fluttering that came with it. His eyes darted awkwardly from one face to another, realizing all three of themâLucifer, Charlie, and Vaggieâwere staring at him again.
âEr⊠yes?â Adam managed, voice a bit too high, sheepish as he shifted under their combined gazes.
Luciferâs pout was almost cartoonish, lips pursed in a teasing mock of disappointment. âWhatâs got your attention, Adam?â
His voice was smooth, too smooth, like silk wrapping around his name. Luciferâs eyes flickered toward Adamâs house, the movement almost imperceptible, but Adam followed the glance instinctively.
He turned just in time to see the murder of black crows on the roof take off all at once, their wings exploding into the air like thunderous shadows, spiralling into the darkening sky. The sight was eerie, unnatural, as if the crows had been waiting for some silent cue. The flurry of feathers and ominous cawing made Adamâs blood run cold.
Lucifer snorted beside him, an amused sound that seemed too casual for the unsettling scene.
âDonât pay attention to crows, Adam,â Lucifer teased, his grin widening as he tugged at Adamâs arm with surprising strength, pulling him away from the sight. âThey flip-flop all the timeânever can decide what they want.â
Adam barely had time to process Luciferâs words before he was being draggedârather forcefullyâtoward Charlie and Vaggie, who were still standing in the pumpkin patch. Charlieâs face lit up when they arrived, her smile bright and innocent, though something about it sent a shiver down Adamâs spine. Vaggie, always the quieter one, still had a small smile on her lips, but her gaze was steady, a little too knowing.
âDo you like apples, Adam?â Charlie chirped, bouncing on her heels as she reached out to pick up a small pumpkin, cradling it like a prize.
âNo, not really,â he said, unsure why the question had been asked. Adam blinked; his confusion clear on his face.
Lucifer chuckled, a deep, rumbling sound that vibrated through the autumn air, but he said nothing, though his grin deepened, almost feral. Adamâs frown deepened in response, wondering if he was the butt of some joke he didnât understand.
Vaggie shook her head, still smiling, and nudged Charlie playfully.
âStop teasing him,â she chided lightly, though her own chuckle betrayed her amusement.
Adam furrowed his brow, glancing between them. âWhatâs going on? Whatâs so funny?â
Charlie waved her hand dismissively, still giggling. âOh, itâs just an inside joke. Donât worry about it!â
She grinned wider, eyes twinkling with mischief, and before Adam could pry further, she pointed to a large, misshapen pumpkin with a crooked stem. âI want that one.â
Adam blinked, staring at the pumpkin with a perplexed look. âYou sure? Itâs⊠kind of ugly.â
Vaggie snorted beside him, nodding her head in agreement. âIâm with Adam on this one, itâs not exactly winning any beauty contests.â
Charlie gasped dramatically, clutching Vaggieâs arm in mock offense.
âHow dare you gang up on me with Adam!â she exclaimed, but her laughter broke through, her voice light and airy. She looped her arm through Vaggieâs, giggling as Vaggie leaned in to kiss her cheek teasingly.
Adam couldnât help but smile at their playful affection, the sweet way they moved together like a pair of dancers caught in their own private rhythm. For a moment, the weight of the eerie atmosphere lifted. There was something undeniably charming about the way they looked at each other, like they were in their own world.
But just as Adam began to relax, that gnawing sense of unease slithered back in. The hairs on the back of his neck prickled as he became acutely aware of Luciferâs gaze once more. It was intense, almost predatory, and when Adam met his eyes, he was caught in themâblue and impossibly deep, like staring into the abyss of an ocean.
Lucifer wasnât smiling anymore. His expression was unreadable, but those eyes⊠they burned with something. Something that made Adamâs heart race, not with excitement, but with fear.
A cold sweat formed at Adamâs temples, and his throat tightened as he tried to break the spell Luciferâs gaze had cast. The silence stretched between them, thick and heavy, and Adam suddenly wished he could disappear into the earth like the pumpkins they were surrounded by. There was a weight in Luciferâs stare, something that made Adam feel like preyâlike he was being sized up, toyed with.
His mouth went dry as he forced out a nervous chuckle, trying to break the tension.
âSo, you really like that pumpkin, huh?â he said, addressing Charlie but feeling Luciferâs presence looming beside him, a shadow that refused to go away.
Lucifer finally grinned again, but this time, it was slower, more deliberate.
âOh, yes,â he murmured, his voice almost a purr, low and sweet. âThereâs something⊠perfect about it, wouldnât you agree?â
Adamâs stomach flipped as he glanced at the misshapen pumpkin. It wasnât just the pumpkin Lucifer was talking about, was it?
~#~
The following weeks were strangeâtoo strange. Adam couldnât put his finger on it, but there was something off, something sinister weaving itself into the fabric of Hallow-Eve Town. The air had turned thick and heavy, almost oppressive, as though the atmosphere itself was conspiring to smother any sense of normalcy. The clouds hung lower now, swollen and dark, blocking out the sun more often than not, casting long, eerie shadows over the town. It wasnât just the weather either; something darker, more intangible, had crept into the town. The shift was subtle but unmistakable, like the sensation of being watched when youâre certain no one is there.
And then there was the strangest part of allâAdam. Or rather, the way people had begun to treat him. It hurt more than heâd expected, like a knife slowly twisting in his chest. Heâd grown up here, known these people his entire life, and yet suddenly, it was as if they no longer saw him. People who used to greet him with smiles and nods, who would chat with him on their porches or wave as they passed by, now acted like he didnât even exist. It was like they were ghosts, or maybe he was. The townâs children, once eager to run up to him, to beg him to play guitar, now hurried past with vacant eyes, their laughter hollow, distant. No one met his gaze, no one asked him how he was doing, no one cared.
It was painful. Adam felt adrift, as though some invisible force had severed his ties to the town he once called home. He couldn't shake the suffocating feeling of isolation.
One afternoon, desperate for some kind of connection, Adam picked up his pace when he spotted Lute and Emily, the twins whoâd been his childhood friends. They were as much a part of his life as the pumpkins in the fall or the first snowfall in winter. Surely they wouldnât ignore him too, right? His heart lifted for the first time in days, and he called out to them, waving with a hopeful smile.
"Lute! Emily!" His voice sounded too loud, echoing unnaturally in the stillness of the street.
Lute didnât even acknowledge him. Emily glanced at him for a fleeting second, her eyes unreadable, before turning her back and walking off, Lute following her without a word. Adam came to a halt, his chest tightening, the familiar ache of rejection spreading through him. His hands dropped limply to his sides, the air around him growing colder. He muttered to himself, âWhat did I do? Why am I losing my friends?â
The sting of tears pricked at his eyes, and he wiped them away roughly with his sleeve, not wanting to cry in the middle of the street. It hurt more than he cared to admit. But just as the loneliness started to suffocate him, a dry, familiar voice broke through the fog.
âItâll get easier. Eventually, it wonât hurt at all.â
Adam blinked, startled. He hadnât even noticed Vaggie standing there, her presence as sudden as a shadow slipping into view. She was leaning against a post, her grey bomber coat zipped up to her chin, the silver cross on her chest gleaming faintly in the muted light. Her braids swayed slightly as she pushed herself off the post and walked up to him, hands stuffed in her pockets.
âI didnât notice you there,â Adam admitted, surprised by her words. He tried to smile, but it faltered.
Vaggie returned the smile, though hers was sharper, more knowing.
âPeople like us, weâre used to being ignored.â She gestured for them to walk together. âYou look like you could use the company.â
Adam gave a small, grateful smile. âAt least someoneâs still willing to talk to me.â
Vaggie shrugged, her hands still buried deep in her pockets. âDonât worry about them. It just proves no one here really cared about you in the first place. They can all fuck off.â
The sudden vulgarity from her caught Adam off guard. He hadnât expected it from her, someone who always seemed so composed.
âYou swear?â he asked, half amused, half surprised.
Vaggie raised an eyebrow and grinned slightly. âI do when itâs deserved. And trust me, they deserve it.â
Adam chuckled softly, the sound more sad than amused, and they fell into step together, the autumn streets unusually quiet. The carved pumpkins lining the sidewalks stared back at them with jagged, crooked grins, their hollow eyes flickering with candlelight. Everywhere they walked, the pumpkins watched, their expressions twisted, as if they knew something Adam didnât.
Vaggieâs voice broke the silence again. âYou can talk to me, you know,â she said, her tone softening. âIâve been through something similar.â
Adam glanced at her curiously. âHow similar?â
Vaggie sighed, her breath fogging in the chilly air. âLetâs just say that everyone I thought cared about meâfamily, friendsâthey turned on me the moment it suited them. Threw me under the bus to save themselves.â
Adam winced, the pain in her voice hitting too close to home. âIâm sorry.â
âWhy are you apologizing? You didnât do anything to me,â Vaggie snorted, though there was no bitterness in her tone. Still, Adam couldnât help but feel guilty.
âDoesnât matter. Iâm just sorry you had to go through that,â he mumbled, looking down at his feet.
Vaggie smiled again, this time a little softer. âYouâre a nice person, Adam. Too nice for this place.â
As they walked, the conversation turned lighter. They passed by more pumpkinsâhundreds of themâeach more grotesque than the last, their grins sharp and menacing.
âI didnât care for pumpkins at first.â Vaggie confessed, her cheek turning pink. âI didnât care for a lot of things until Charlie. She made me see the beauty in them.â
Vaggieâs face softened in the dimming autumn light as she spoke, her voice carrying a wistful note that Adam hadnât heard from her before. "Itâs been a long time now, me and Charlie," she said, her gaze distant, almost lost in memory. A faint blush crept over her pale cheeks, and her usual cool demeanour melted away like frost in the morning sun. âShe was there when I needed someone the most. When everything felt like it was crumbling, when I didnât think I had anyone left... she was there. No questions, no judgments. Just open arms.â
Adam smiled softly, teasing just enough to lighten the mood. âYou must really love her, huh?â
Vaggie gave a half-shrug, her expression unreadable for a moment.
âI didnât at first,â she admitted, her tone more vulnerable than Adam had ever heard from her. That caught his attention, and he tilted his head in confusion.
âWhat do you mean?â he asked, curiosity piqued. He couldnât imagine anyone not loving Charlie instantlyâshe was so full of life, like sunlight breaking through clouds.
Vaggie sighed, her breath curling in the cool, thickening air. The pumpkins that lined the streets seemed to flicker with a ghostly light as she spoke, their crooked smiles and jagged teeth casting eerie shadows on the cobblestones.
"Itâs complicated," she said, her voice quiet, almost as if confessing to something she hadnât shared with anyone in a long time. âFor a long time, I resented her. Blamed her for... a lot of things. Things that werenât even her fault. But I was hurting, and it was easier to be angry at someone than face what was really going on inside me.â
Adam frowned, slowly processing her words. There was an unspoken weight in her voice, a history thick with pain and regrets. He didnât push for more, sensing that whatever had happened was something deeply personal, something that had shaped her in ways he couldnât begin to understand.
âBut Charlie...â Vaggie continued, her eyes growing distant as she spoke of her past, âCharlie never gave up on me. No matter how cold or distant I was, she stayed. She was kind, patient. She didnât try to fix meâshe just... she was there. She saw something in me when I couldnât see it in myself.â
Her lips curled into a soft smile, almost bittersweet. âEventually, I realized my life had become so much better because of her. She chose me, and Iâd rather spend my days happy with her than be stuck in my own darkness.â
Adam stared at Vaggie, his heart warming despite the chill creeping through the air. There was something deeply moving about the way she spoke of Charlie, like the two of them were bound by something far stronger than mere affectionâa kind of love that had been forged in the fire of hardship, shaped by resilience and trust. He found himself envying that connection, that deep, unwavering loyalty.
But before he could ask her more, a familiar, excited voice cut through the air, breaking the moment like the snap of a brittle twig.
âAdam! Vaggie!â
Charlieâs voice rang out with infectious joy, and when Adam glanced up, he saw her bounding toward them, practically glowing in the fading light. Her smile was radiant, her golden hair bouncing as she hurried toward them, and just behind her, as always, was Lucifer.
And of course, Lucifer was staring at Adam again. His intense, unnervingly blue eyes never seemed to leave him, watching him with a gaze that felt too sharp, too knowing. It was like being caught in the gaze of a predatorâsilent, patient, waiting for the perfect moment to pounce.
When was he not watching me? Adam thought with a shiver, his pulse quickening under that piercing stare. He tried to shake off the unease, telling himself it was all in his head, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldnât ignore the way Luciferâs presence seemed to suffocate the air around him.
Charlie skipped toward Vaggie, her steps light and playful as autumn leaves crunched beneath her feet. In her hand, she held a small brown bag adorned with pink bowsâdelicate, almost childish, but in Charlieâs hands, it radiated a sweetness that made the dreary streets of Hallow-Eve Town feel just a little brighter.
"You have to try these apple slices," Charlie said with a breathless excitement, practically bouncing as she reached Vaggie. Her voice sparkled with enthusiasm. "They're so good!"
Vaggie smiled, a rare softness touching her lips as she watched Charlie. Her grey and violet hair swayed gently as she leaned in closer, her dark eyes glimmering with fondness.
âOh yeah?â she teased, glancing at the bag with curiosity.
Charlie didnât miss a beat, quickly retrieving an apple slice covered in sugar and cinnamon from the bag. She held it up in front of Vaggie, the sugary coating catching the dim light like a dusting of frost.
âHere,â Charlie said, almost shy, her voice sweetening like honey.
Instead of taking it, Vaggie leaned forward, sinking her teeth into the apple slice right from Charlieâs hand. The crunch echoed faintly in the cool air, and Vaggieâs lips curled into a smirk as she chewed. Charlie gasped, a blush blooming across her cheeks, her eyes wide and bright. There was something almost adorable about how flustered she got, like the simple act of feeding Vaggie had caught her off guard. She blinked, then beamed at Vaggie, the pink in her cheeks deepening.
Adam, standing just a few steps away, couldnât help but smile, even as a pang of sadness twisted in his chest. Watching the two of them, their love so obvious, made him feel a strange mix of warmth and loneliness.
âItâs really good,â Vaggie said softly, her voice carrying a hint of affection. Charlieâs eyes flickered to Vaggieâs lips, lingering there for a moment longer than necessary.
âCan I...?â Charlie whispered, her voice trailing off, leaving the question hanging in the cool air between them.
Vaggie didnât answer with words. Instead, she leaned in, closing the space between them as Charlieâs eyes fluttered shut. Their lips met in a soft, tender kiss, one that seemed to momentarily pause the world around them. Adam quickly turned away, his face flushing with bashful awkwardness, trying to give them their privacy.
Just as he did, though, a warm hand gently cupped his elbow, pulling him out of his own thoughts. The touch was soft yet firm, guiding him up the street. Adamâs heart skipped a beat as his green eyes met the deep, intense blue of Luciferâs.
There he was again.
Lucifer grinned, his golden hair catching the faint light of the streetlamps, giving him an almost ethereal glow. He held up a small brown bag, identical to the one Charlie had been carrying.
âDonât worry, Adam,â Lucifer said in a voice that was both playful and unnervingly soft. âI got you something too. Pumpkin slices, your favourite.â
âYou... didnât have to,â he stammered, feeling a strange flutter in his chest. Adam blinked in surprise, his cheeks warming despite the chill in the air.
Luciferâs eyes sparkled mischievously as he reached into the bag, pulling out a pumpkin slice dusted with cinnamon.
âI know,â Lucifer replied, his voice lowering to a velvety purr. âBut I wanted to.â
Before Adam could protest, Lucifer held the slice up to his lips, much like Charlie had done for Vaggie. The air between them thickened with an odd tension, something that felt both sweet and unsettling all at once. Adam hesitated, his heart racing, but then he leaned forward, biting into the pumpkin slice.
As the warm, spiced flavour spread across his tongue, Adamâs gaze dropped to the cobblestones, too flustered to meet Luciferâs eyes.
He mumbled a quiet âThanks,â his cheeks burning with embarrassment. When he dared to glance back at Lucifer, he noticed the blonde was still staring at him, a look of almost surprised warmth softening his sharp features.
Luciferâs blue eyes widened briefly, then his lips curled into a slow, gentle smile that made Adamâs chest tighten in an odd way. Lucifer lifted the rest of the pumpkin slice to his own lips andâwithout warningâbit into it, finishing what Adam had started.
âSorry,â Lucifer said, chuckling softly. âI couldnât help myself.â
Adamâs face turned even redder as the realization hit himâLucifer had just shared an indirect kiss. He swallowed hard, his heart beating too fast, his mind whirling.
âItâs... itâs fine,â he mumbled, desperately trying to ignore the way his gaze kept flicking to Luciferâs cherry-red lips.
Lucifer watched him for another heartbeat, his gaze intense, searching, before finally looking away, seemingly satisfied with Adamâs response. He turned to glance at Charlie and Vaggie, who were still wrapped in each otherâs arms up the street.
âWhat were you two doing before this?â Adam asked shyly, trying to break the tension, his voice a little unsteady.
âWe were just out doing some grocery shopping,â Charlie beamed at him, still holding Vaggie close.
Vaggie leaned her head against Charlieâs shoulder, her usual stern demeanour softening in the glow of Charlieâs affection. âDo you need a hand in taking the bags home?â
âDonât worry about it Vaggie!â Lucifer chimed. âTheyâre already back at the house!â
âWe were about to head home now.â Charlie sang before gasping, her eyes widening gleefully. âYou should come with us!â
âYeah, you should,â Vaggie agreed, though her voice was quieter, more casual.
âWait, your groceries are already back at the house?â Adam blinked in surprise. âBut... your place is, like, an hour and a half from here. How...?â
Before he could finish, Lucifer squeezed his handâwhen had he taken Adamâs hand? âand grinned up at him.
âDonât worry about it,â Lucifer said with a wink. âWeâre efficient.â
Adam wasnât sure what to make of that, but his thoughts were quickly interrupted as Luciferâs grip tightened slightly.
âCome have dinner with us,â Lucifer said, his voice dropping to a low, persuasive whisper. âIâd love for you to join us.â
âDadâs the best cook! You must try his pancakes, Adam!â she begged, bouncing excitedly on her heels. Charlie squealed in agreement, her golden eyes sparkling with hope.
Even Vaggie, usually more reserved, smirked and added, âTheyâre damn good. Best pancakes youâll ever have.â
Adam hesitated, still feeling the weight of the townâs strange coldness toward him, the way people had started to ignore him. But here, with these peopleâthe odd, charming, and slightly unsettling familyâhe felt... wanted.
Adam smiled, albeit shyly. âPancakes are for breakfast.â
âPancakes are an anytime food, Adam,â he said, his grin wide and infectious. Lucifer snorted in amusement.
Charlie clapped her hands, practically glowing with excitement. âPlease say youâll come!â she begged, her voice full of warmth and sincerity.
Lucifer leaned in just slightly, his voice soft but compelling. âPlease.â
Adamâs resistance crumbled. How could he say no?
âOkay,â he said, his smile widening. âIâll come.â
Charlie cheered, her joy infectious, while Luciferâs blue eyes sparkled with something more intense, a warmth that lingered just a moment too long. Adam couldnât shake the feeling that heâd just crossed some invisible threshold, and there was no turning back.
The crows cawed ominously overhead as they walked together into the deepening twilight, and the shadows seemed to stretch a little longer behind them.
~#~
As they walked through the dim, winding streets, the dying light of the autumn sun fading behind jagged rooftops, Adam couldnât help but feel at ease. Talking with Lucifer, despite his unsettling name and the sharp, enigmatic aura he seemed to carry, was unexpectedly comforting. The crisp Halloween air swirled around them, carrying the faint scent of smoke and pumpkin spice, but the chill wasnât unpleasant. In fact, Adam found the warmth in Luciferâs presence more soothing than he'd anticipated. He had definitely misjudged him.
Their hour-and-a-half-long walk felt like a strange, enchanted passage, where time stretched in peculiar ways. It was as though the shadows grew deeper, the streets quieter, but within that eerie silence, Luciferâs soft humming provided an odd sense of peace. Up ahead, Charlie and Vaggie had broken off, giggling to each other like a pair of mischievous ghosts, leaving Adam and Lucifer trailing behind in a more intimate solitude.
Adam glanced at Lucifer, who was kicking a small stone out of his path with casual indifference. His voice, when he spoke, was gentle, almost too quiet for the cool evening air.
âCharlieâs mother didnât want her.â
The words hung in the air, heavy and dark, like a cloud of mist creeping through the barren trees. Adam winced as they hit him, feeling a sudden surge of regret for even asking. He stammered out an apology, his mind racing as he realized he had wandered too far into sensitive territory.
âIâm sorryâI shouldnât haveâ"
Luciferâs smile was soft, warm despite the cold sting of his revelation.
âItâs fine, Adam,â he assured him, his blue eyes meeting Adamâs with surprising tenderness. âItâs been a long time... and Iâve never really had anyone to talk to about Lilith.â
Adam blinked, taken aback by Luciferâs openness, and the mention of that name made his stomach twist. He tried to shake off the unease, but Lucifer seemed to notice. With a playful chuckle, he leaned in slightly, nudging Adam with his shoulder, a teasing glint in his eyes.
âI can tell what you're thinking,â Lucifer mused, grinning slyly.
Adam flushed, his face heating up despite the cold that lingered in the air. âI-Iâm not thinking anything!â he insisted, flustered, trying to look anywhere but at Lucifer.
âYouâre wondering if everyone I know is named after a demon,â Lucifer said, his voice rich with amusement.
âI wasnât!â he lied, but the way Luciferâs sharp grin widened told Adam he wasnât fooling anyone.
âWell,â Lucifer's eyes twinkled with mischief, his voice dipping to a playful purr, âYouâll just have to stick around and find out.â
Adam swallowed hard, feeling his heart skip a beat. His throat tightened, and before he could stop himself, he muttered shyly, âI... might.â
Lucifer didnât miss a beat. He reached out again, curling his fingers around Adamâs hand, and squeezed gently. The contact sent a jolt through Adam, not unpleasant but unexpected, like a spark of static in the crisp October air.
âI was with Lilith for a short time,â Lucifer began, his tone softer now, almost reflective. âI was lonely... and she was looking for somethingâor someoneâto entertain her. But when she became pregnant, everything changed.â
Adamâs breath hitched, and his gaze flicked toward Charlie, who was still walking ahead, blissfully unaware of the conversation behind her. He couldnât imagine anyone not wanting Charlie in their life. Her joy was infectious, her kindness so bright that it almost hurt to think about her being unwanted.
âLilith didnât want the child,â Lucifer continued, his voice growing heavier. âI had to beg her not to...â
Adam gulped, feeling the weight of what Lucifer was about to say. His heart raced as he thought of Charlie, her sunny demeanour masking what must have been deep hurt.
âNot to abort her,â Lucifer finished, his voice barely more than a whisper, as though the words themselves were a curse.
Adamâs eyes widened in shock, the cold autumn air suddenly feeling a little more biting. He could only imagine the desperation Lucifer must have felt, pleading for the life of his daughter. And then, to his horror, he learned the price.
âLilith only agreed to carry Charlie to term on one condition,â Lucifer continued, his voice tightening slightly.
âI had to give up half my Kingââ He stopped, catching himself before he revealed too much, then quickly added, âHalf my estate.â
âShe sounds like a... gold digger,â Adam muttered, trying to process the cruelty of it all. He blinked, his brows furrowing in confusion.
âThatâs exactly what she was,â he replied with a sharp edge in his voice. Lucifer snorted, a dark, bitter chuckle slipping through his lips. âShe got what she wanted, and once Charlie was born, she slammed the door. Never looked back.â
Even though Lucifer spoke with a casual tone, there was something broken in his words. Adam could feel the weight of those memories pressing down on him. And then, the final blowâLucifer spoke of how Charlie, years later, had gone searching for her mother, yearning for a connection that Lilith would never give.
âWhen Charlie finally went looking for her... Lilith didnât want to know her. Didnât even want to look at her.â Lucifer sighed, a deep, weary sound. âCharlie was heartbroken. But Vaggie helped, more than I could ever thank her for.â
Adam exhaled slowly, the knot in his chest loosening slightly. Relief washed over him knowing that Charlie had Vaggie by her side during that painful time. He couldnât bear the thought of Charlieâbright, joyful Charlieâbeing so hurt.
Without thinking, Adam squeezed Luciferâs hand, offering him silent comfort.
âCharlieâs lucky to have you,â Adam said softly. âYouâre... a wonderful father.â
Lucifer stopped walking for a moment, blinking in surprise. His usual mischievous grin faded, replaced by something far more genuineâsomething vulnerable. He looked at Adam, a blush creeping up his cheeks, as though the compliment had caught him off guard.
âI...â Lucifer started, his voice almost shy, a rare crack in his confident exterior. His lips curled into a small, grateful smile. âThank you, Adam.â
As they continued walking together, the shadows seemed to close in around them, the eerie glow of jack-oâ-lanterns flickering from porches and windows, casting long, twisted silhouettes that danced along the ground. Despite the creeping darkness, there was something warm between themâsomething real and tender beneath the surface.
And for the first time in a while, Adam felt... not so alone.
Luciferâs fingers remained firmly intertwined with Adamâs all the way to his house, and no matter how much Adam tried to rationalize it, he couldnât ignore the fluttering warmth in his chest. It was absurd. Maybe Lucifer was just naturally touchy-feely, and Adam was overthinking it. The man was clearly lonely. After all, Adam had learned that Luciferâs past was a tangled mess of betrayal and heartbreak. No family to speak of beyond his daughter, and, apparently, no friends. So perhaps this was just⊠friendly.
But then, why did his heart keep racing every time Lucifer smiled at him?
By the time they turned the corner and reached their destination, Adamâs train of thought came screeching to a halt. His breath caught in his throat as he gazed up at the houseâa towering, three-story Victorian marvel painted a rich, velvety red. It was framed by a glossy black roof, the eaves lined with elegant filigree and ivy that curled like skeletal fingers around the trim. Massive, arched windows with intricate latticework peeked out like watchful eyes from every floor, glowing faintly in the dusky light.
But it was the front yard that stole his breath completely.
Dozens of jack-oâ-lanterns grinned wickedly up at him, filling the garden in rows and clusters, each one meticulously carved with its own unique expression. Some were twisted and monstrous, with gaping maws and crooked, wicked smiles; others were hauntingly beautiful, delicate patterns of swirling vines and spiderwebs etched into their skins. The flickering candlelight inside them seemed to dance and sway, casting eerie, shifting shadows across the yard and up the houseâs red facade, making the entire place look as if it were caught in a ghostly, enchanting dream.
Adam could only gape, utterly stunned. Heâd carved pumpkins every year with his mom, and she was the best pumpkin carver he knew. But thisâthis was something otherworldly.
âYou⊠you live here?â Adam finally managed to choke out, his voice filled with awe.
Luciferâs grin was smug, sharp as the crescent moon rising behind them. âImpressed, are you?â
Adam nodded; his eyes wide. âOf course I am! This isâthis is amazing!â
Charlie, who had skipped ahead, spun around to face him, her blonde curls bouncing. She beamed at Adam; her smile as bright as the jack-oâ-lanterns surrounding them.
âWe love trying new things! Weâre so happy you like them!â she chirped, practically glowing with excitement.
Adam blinked, shaking his head in disbelief. âWaitâyouâre saying⊠youâve never carved pumpkins before this?â
Charlie and Vaggie exchanged a knowing glance, sharing a secret smile.
âYeah,â Vaggie replied with a nonchalant shrug, brushing a stray lock of silvery hair behind her ear. âThis is the first time weâve ever really touched a pumpkin. We only started after moving to Hallow-Eve Town.â
âYouâre amazing,â Adamâs jaw dropped, the words slipping out before he could think.
Lucifer squeezed his hand, and Adam jolted, looking over at him. The blondeâs eyes glinted with a dark, playful light, and his grin widened.
âOh, we have many skills, Adam,â he said, his voice dropping to a low, velvety purr. He leaned in slightly, his gaze locking onto Adamâs, teasing and intimate. âIâm sure youâll come to learn them allâif youâre brave enough, that is.â
Adam felt his face flush hot. The sudden tension between them crackled like the air before a thunderstorm, sending shivers down his spine. Was he reading too much into this? Or was Lucifer actually
Lucifer just smirked, guiding him through the wrought-iron gates and up the cobblestone path. The gate creaked shut behind them with a soft, ominous groan. As they stepped onto the wide, shadowed porch, Adamâs attention was drawn to two dark figures sitting in front of the grand, lacquered doors.
Two black cats, their eyes gleaming like twin emeralds in the gloom, were perched on the stoop, staring up at them. Their sleek fur blended seamlessly into the creeping shadows, but the flick of their tails and the faint glow of their watchful eyes betrayed them.
âBlack cats?â Adam murmured, surprised. Black cats were bad omens, a symbol of curses and ill fortuneâespecially on Halloween night.
But Charlie and Vaggie scooped the cats up without hesitation, cuddling them to their chests.
âThis is Razzle and Dazzle!â Charlie introduced them proudly, cooing to the cats as they purred in her arms. âArenât they sweet?â
Adam couldnât help but smile a little. âRazzle and Dazzle? Those are⊠unusual names for cats.â
Lucifer rolled his eyes good-naturedly. âCharlie named them when she was little,â he explained, shaking his head as if recalling some fond, exasperating memory. âShe insisted they needed âsparklyâ names.â
âThat makes sense,â Adam said softly, watching as the two girls disappeared into the house, the cats nuzzling into their arms. âTheyâre cute.â
Charlie glanced over her shoulder, grinning. âWeâre going to finish up some homework before dinner!â she called, her voice echoing through the foyer.
âOkay! Iâll call you when dinners ready!â Lucifer called after her.
âIâm glad youâre here,â Vaggie paused at the base of the staircase, turning back to Adam and offering him a small, genuine smile. âWeâve been looking forward to it.â
Adam blinked, caught off guard. âOhâum, thanks. Iâm happy to be here, too.â
Charlieâs grin widened, and she gave him a quick wave before the two disappeared up the winding staircase, Razzle and Dazzle perched in their arms like living shadows.
Luciferâs hand slipped from Adamâs, his touch lingering for just a moment longer than necessary.
âCome,â he murmured, his voice soft but insistent. âLet me show you around.â
Adam nodded dumbly, following Lucifer deeper into the house. The grand corridor stretched before them, lined with high, arched doorways and rich, dark wood panelling. And on the walls⊠Adamâs breath caught.
Paintings. Dozens of them. But not the eerie portraits of long-dead ancestors or the grim landscapes he would have expected. These were⊠different. Angels, bathed in ethereal light, their wings spread wide and luminous. Scenes of heaven, of divine glory and celestial battles. The artistry was breathtaking, almost blinding in its beauty, yet there was something unsettling beneath the perfection. The eyes of the angels seemed too sharp, too knowing. Their smiles were serene, yet their gazes held a strange, predatory hunger.
âYouââ Adam swallowed hard, glancing at Lucifer, who was watching him with a dark, secret smile. âI⊠didnât think you were into religion.â
Luciferâs grin turned wicked, his eyes flashing with something wild and dangerous.
âOh, Adam,â he purred, his voice dripping with dark amusement. âIâm not.â
âBut sometimes,â he whispered, his lips curving into a sharp, predatory smile. He took a step closer, his gaze never leaving Adamâs, âI like to pretend the stories are true.â
A shiver ran down Adamâs spine, a mix of fear and something darker, something thrilling. And as Luciferâs blue eyes bore into his, Adam couldnât help but wonder what other stories the man liked to pretend were real.
Lucifer led Adam into the kitchen, and the moment Adam stepped inside, his breath caught in his throat. The room was enormous, gleaming under the soft glow of pendant lights that hung like eerie moons over the countertops. Every surface sparkled, polished to a mirror-like finish. The stainless-steel appliances reflected the light in cold, sharp glints, giving the whole space an almost sterile perfection. It was ten times the size of Adamâs own kitchen back homeâno, more. It was the kind of kitchen you'd expect in a mansion, a place fit for a king. Adam couldnât help but wonder just how rich Lucifer really was.
Noticing the awe-struck look on Adamâs face, Lucifer smiled smugly and stepped closer, his presence suddenly overwhelming. His fingers trailed up Adamâs arm in a slow, deliberate motion, the lightest touch that sent a shiver of sensation rippling across Adamâs skin. When Luciferâs hand reached Adamâs chest, his fingers began to toy with the buttons of Adamâs coat. Adam gasped softly, startled by the intimacy of the gesture.
Lucifer's eyes twinkled with feigned innocence as he tilted his head, his voice a teasing whisper. "You donât have to wear your coat indoors, Adam. Why donât you take it off?"
Adam flushed, his face turning a shade of pink that matched the warmth now flooding the kitchen. He glanced down at himself, realizing the heat had seeped into his bones the moment theyâd entered the house. He nodded shyly, fingers fumbling for the buttons of his coat, but before he could begin to unbutton it, Lucifer took his hands.
âLet me,â Lucifer whispered, his voice low, almost a purr.
Adamâs heart leaped into his throat, his mouth opening to respond, but nothing came out. He stood frozen, rooted to the spot, as Lucifer slowly undid each button of his coat, the sound of fabric brushing against fingers the only thing breaking the silence. With an almost reverent touch, Lucifer tugged the coat from Adamâs shoulders, the fabric sliding down his arms like a heavy, inevitable weight being lifted.
Lucifer hummed softly, his eyes sweeping across Adamâs form in a way that made Adam feel exposed, vulnerable. His fingers grazed the oversized shirt Adam wore beneath the coat, tugging at the hem with a playful flick.
âThere,â Lucifer murmured approvingly. âIsnât that better?â
Adam, flustered, could only nod, folding his arms awkwardly as he stood there, unsure what to do. Lucifer took the coat from him, moving with graceful ease to hang it up in a nearby cupboard. Adam watched him, his gaze following the sleek lines of Luciferâs form until the man shrugged off his own coat, revealing something that made Adam blink in surprise.
Lucifer was wearing a Halloween-themed sweaterâbright orange with a little cartoon duck in a witchâs hat plastered on the front. The sight of it, so unexpected and oddly adorable, made Adam quickly avert his gaze, but not before Lucifer caught him staring. A smug smirk curled across Luciferâs cherry-red lips, his eyes glinting with mischievous amusement.
Adam fidgeted nervously, trying to find somethingâanythingâto distract himself from the intensity of Luciferâs gaze.
âWhy did you choose to move to Hallow-Eve Town?â he asked softly, almost to himself. âSurely it wasnât because of the pumpkins, right?â
Lucifer, now whistling a light, haunting tune, stepped up to one of the many pristine counters. He reached for an apronâone that, to Adamâs surprise, matched his sweater with more little ducksâand slipped it over his head, tying it neatly at his waist. The apron was frilly, white and red, with a cute little bow that sat snugly at Luciferâs lower back. Adam blinked, wondering how someone could switch from eerie to adorable so seamlessly.
Rolling up the sleeves of his sweater to reveal pale arms with strange, dark patches that dusted his skin like shadows, Lucifer glanced at Adam. The markings caught Adamâs eye, but he quickly looked away, not wanting to be rude.
"No reason, really," he said in that same playful, lilting tone. Lucifer hummed as he tied the final knot. "We wonât be here for long."
Adam furrowed his brow, the cryptic answer making him uneasy. "Are you⊠planning to move again soon?"
Lucifer smiled, a slow, wicked curl of his lips. "Something like that. We came here to retrieve something." His voice dropped to a low, almost sinister murmur.
A chill crept down Adamâs spine at the way Lucifer said thatâ"retrieve something." It sounded ominous, like something out of a dark, forgotten legend. Adam shivered, resisting the urge to ask more, unsure if he wanted to know the answer.
Before Adam could dwell on it further, Lucifer snapped his sharp teeth playfully in the air, his blue eyes gleaming with a predatory light.
"Come closer," he teased, his grin widening. "I donât bite."
âYou said you liked to bite.â Adam pointed out.
Lucifer purred. âIn the bedroom, I meant~â
Adam swallowed hard but managed to breathe in deeply, steadying himself. He stepped up beside Lucifer, his heart still racing.
"Can I help with anything?" he asked, eager to do somethingâanythingâto distract himself from the tension hanging in the air. He didnât want to just stand there while Lucifer did all the work.
Lucifer cooed softly in admiration, his hip pressing lightly against Adamâs in a casual, almost intimate gesture.
"Thatâs very sweet of you, Adam," Lucifer purred. His hand grazed Adamâs side as he handed him a bowl filled with fresh ingredients. "I appreciate the offer."
Adam smiled, feeling a bit more at ease. Despite everythingâthe cryptic comments, the playful snapping of teeth, and the tension that seemed to swirl like shadows around Luciferâhe was happy to help. He liked being useful. Besides, the kitchen felt warm and welcoming now, despite the eerie undercurrents of the house.
As they began working side by side, the tension in the air seemed to settle into something more comfortable, more familiar. Adam couldnât help but glance at Lucifer every now and then, catching the faintest smile or the sly glint in those sharp blue eyes. There was something about the manâsomething both unsettling and irresistibly alluring.
And Adam wasnât sure if he should be afraid of that or if he liked it.
As the two continued their playful banter, the air between them grew thick with an undeniable tension, charged like the crackle before a storm. Lucifer, ever the tease, slid closer to Adamâs side, his movements slow and deliberate, as if savouring every second of their proximity. Adam felt the subtle heat of Luciferâs body as he leaned in, the smell of cinnamon and cloves clinging to the air between themâa scent that seemed almost too sweet, too tempting for someone so dangerous.
Luciferâs fingers curled over Adamâs hand, guiding it towards the cutting board. His grip was firm, yet strangely gentle, his skin cool to the touch but leaving a trail of warmth where their hands connected. Adam's breath hitched as Lucifer pressed closer, his body lightly brushing against Adamâs side. The contact sent an involuntary shiver racing down Adamâs spine, his cheeks flushing a deep crimson. The heat crept all the way up to his ears as he felt Luciferâs chest pressing into his back, close enough that every breath Lucifer took seemed to sync with his own.
"Careful now," Lucifer murmured, his voice a low, sultry whisper that sent a ripple of sensation through Adam.
His breath ghosted over Adamâs cheek, cool and soft like a breeze that carried whispers of something darker, something dangerous.
"Hold the knife like thisâŠ" His fingers wrapped around Adamâs hand, tightening just enough to guide the blade as it hovered over the vegetables.
Adamâs heart pounded against his ribcage, the thrum of his pulse quickening under Luciferâs touch. He swallowed hard, focusing on the feel of the blade rather than the man pressing against him. But it was impossible to ignore the way Luciferâs breath tickled his skin, how close his lips were to the side of Adamâs neckâso close it felt like a dare, a tantalizing threat lingering just out of reach.
Luciferâs voice dipped lower, a playful growl behind his words. "If youâre not careful, you might just nip your fingers. And we wouldnât want that, would we?"
His lips hovered near Adamâs ear, as if sharing a secret. His tone was rich with amusement, the sharpness of it cutting through the air like the very blade Adam was gripping.
Adam blushed even harder, his entire body reacting to Luciferâs presence, every nerve alight.
"I-Iâll be careful," Adam stammered, his voice unsteadies, betraying the whirlwind of emotions swirling within him.
His hands felt clumsy under Luciferâs guidance, but with every movement, Luciferâs touch steadied him, controlling the knife with such ease it felt like second nature.
"Good," Lucifer purred, his lips brushing ever so slightly against Adamâs ear, sending another electric shiver down Adamâs spine. "We wouldnât want to ruin those pretty hands of yours."
The compliment, whispered so close, made Adamâs breath catch in his throat. He could feel Luciferâs smile, could sense the way he was enjoying every second of this, pushing the boundaries, seeing how far he could go before Adam would pull away. But Adam didnât pull away. Instead, he let himself be drawn in, feeling both trapped and comforted by Luciferâs presence.
For a fleeting moment, everything else fell awayâthe eerie atmosphere of the house, the distant rustling sounds of the wind against the windows, even the faint creaks of the old floorboards beneath their feet. It was just the two of them in that moment, Lucifer's cool, almost predatory presence coiled around Adam like smoke. It was intoxicating, dangerousâbut it was also undeniably thrilling.
Luciferâs fingers finally released their hold on Adamâs hand, but he didnât move away. His presence lingered, almost as if he was waiting for something. Adam exhaled shakily, his heart still pounding, trying to steady himself. He focused on the knife in front of him, his fingers shaking slightly as he continued to chop the vegetables, all the while acutely aware of Luciferâs gaze, of the way those sharp blue eyes traced every movement.
"Youâre a fast learner," Lucifer praised, his voice a velvet purr. He moved ever so slightly, his chest brushing Adamâs shoulder as he leaned in again. His breath was back, close to Adamâs ear, closer this time.
"But you knowâŠ" Lucifer's voice dropped, becoming an intimate whisper, "Iâm even better at other things."
Adamâs blush deepened, and his hand faltered for a moment. He quickly caught himself, hoping Lucifer didnât notice the sudden hitch in his movements. But of course, Lucifer noticed everything. Adam could feel the manâs smirk without even looking at him. It hung in the air like a well-placed trap, ready to ensnare him.
"Are you trying to make me nervous?" Adam muttered, glancing sideways at Lucifer, trying to muster some semblance of control over his own embarrassment.
Lucifer chuckled softly, the sound a low, dangerous rumble in his chest.
"Maybe." He tilted his head, his eyes gleaming mischievously. "Is it working?"
Adam opened his mouth to reply but found the words tangled on his tongue. He couldnât deny the effect Lucifer was having on himâthe heat, the tension, the way every touch seemed to set his skin alight.
He swallowed thickly, forcing a small laugh. "Maybe a little."
Lucifer grinned, satisfied with the answer, and finally stepped back, giving Adam a little space to breathe. But the absence of his presence was almost worseâit left the air cold, hollow, as if something vital had been pulled away.
"Donât worry," Lucifer said, his tone light and playful once more. "Iâll let you finish without distraction. For now."
He winked, turning his attention to another counter, where various ingredients were laid out for the meal they were about to prepare.
Adam, now free from Luciferâs proximity but still feeling the lingering weight of the moment, exhaled a shaky breath. He smiled to himself as he continued chopping, the ghost of Luciferâs touch still tingling on his skin. This wasnât just an ordinary eveningâit was something far more unsettling, far more electrifying. And Adam wasnât sure if he wanted it to stop.
Dinner unfolded with a strange mix of warmth and tension that Adam couldnât quite shake. Charlie and Vaggie bounded down the stairs, clearly eager to eat, their playful energy filling the dimly lit room. The table was set with an array of food that looked and smelled so much better than anything Adam had been used to growing up. His fingers fidgeted with the fork as he tried to summon an appetite, despite the gnawing uncertainty in his chest.
As they all settled around the table, Charlieâs curious gaze fell on Adam, noticing his hesitation to eat. She cocked her head, her big eyes filled with concern.
"Do you have trouble with food, Adam?" she asked softly, her voice full of innocent curiosity.
Vaggie nudged her with a sharp elbow, whispering something about personal boundaries, and Charlie quickly flushed with embarrassment.
"I mean, you donât have to answer if you donât want to," Charlie quickly added, her cheeks turning a light shade of pink as she ducked her head.
Adam glanced around the table, suddenly feeling like all eyes were on him. Lucifer, who had chosen the seat beside him, was particularly attentive, his piercing blue eyes locking onto Adam with a soft, almost curious expression. Under the weight of those gazes, Adam swallowed nervously, his fingers playing with the cold metal of his fork.
"Itâs fine," Adam muttered after a moment, forcing a small smile to ease the tension. "Itâs not a big deal or anything. Growing up, there wasnât a lot of food around. Not because we were poor, but⊠my parents didnât like the idea of me eating too much. They didnât want a fat kid."
Charlieâs frown was immediate, her brow creased in obvious disdain. She shook her head, muttering something too low for Adam to catch, but her expression said everything. Vaggie, ever her grounding presence, gently took Charlieâs hand in hers, squeezing it as if to remind her to stay calm.
Lucifer, on the other hand, gazed at Adam with a kind of quiet, knowing sympathy. His gaze softened, and he reached out, resting a hand lightly on Adamâs shoulder.
"You should never be ashamed to eat," Lucifer said, his voice low and smooth like silk sliding over velvet. His eyes glinted with something sincere as they met Adamâs. "It would make me very happy if you enjoyed this meal. Eat more than just enough to fill yourselfâtake pleasure in it."
Adamâs face flushed, heat creeping up his neck as Luciferâs words hung in the air. Before Adam could respond, Lucifer, with a mischievous gleam in his eye, speared a slice of ham with his fork and held it up to Adamâs lips. The action was playful but intimate, far more than Adam had expected.
"Open your mouth, darling," Lucifer cooed, his voice a teasing lilt that made Adamâs heart skip.
Adam recoiled slightly, a flustered smile tugging at his lips. "Iâm not a baby," he protested, trying to sound firm, but his voice betrayed him with its softness.
Luciferâs grin widened, sharp and wolfish. "Then donât act like one. Open your mouth and eat the tasty ham."
His voice took on an almost sing-song quality, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "Or should I make airplane noises? Hmm?"
Charlie and Vaggie exchanged amused glances, their giggles filling the room as Adamâs blush deepened. Feeling like he was in some ridiculous situation he couldnât escape, Adam dared Lucifer with a soft, "Go ahead, try it."
Luciferâs grin only grew wider as he accepted the challenge. He leaned in closer, making exaggerated airplane noises, moving the fork toward Adamâs lips in slow, playful circles. The entire moment felt ridiculous, like something straight out of a cheesy movie, but the playful glint in Luciferâs eyes made it impossible for Adam not to smile.
Finally, with a sigh of defeat and cheeks burning, Adam parted his lips and allowed Lucifer to feed him. The ham was savoury and delicious, but Adam barely registered the taste. His mind was too focused on the sensation of Lucifer being so close, of their playful connection weaving an odd but undeniable bond between them.
Lucifer, ever the tease, didnât stop there. After Adam had swallowed, Lucifer leaned in and placed a soft, lingering kiss on his cheek. Adam froze, startled by the sudden affection. His heart raced in his chest, and his body tingled with the warmth of the unexpected gesture.
"Good boy," Lucifer whispered sweetly, his voice dripping with satisfaction as he hummed, pulling away as if nothing had happened.
His movements were casual, but Adam could feel the heat radiating off his own skin, his mind still reeling from the subtle intimacy of it all.
As if to add fuel to the fire, Lucifer continued eating, but not before deliberately using the same fork that had just been in Adamâs mouth. There was something devilishly innocent about the way he did it, as though he were unaware of the unspoken implications. Adamâs eyes widened, his mind immediately jumping to the realization that it was an indirect kiss. He swallowed hard, trying to calm the fluttering in his chest, unsure of how to respond to Luciferâs deliberate antics.
Dinner concluded soon after, Charlie and Vaggie disappearing upstairs to finish their homework, leaving Adam alone with Lucifer in the dimly lit kitchen. Adam felt a slight pang of nervousness but also an odd comfortâLuciferâs presence, while mischievous and teasing, had grown familiar.
As Adam began to gather the dishes to clean up, Lucifer waved him off with a soft laugh.
"You donât have to do that," he said, leaning against the counter with a grin. "I invited you here for dinner, not to work."
Adam shook his head, smiling despite the lingering warmth in his cheeks. "Itâs the least I can do. You cooked dinner, after all. I want to help."
Luciferâs eyes softened at Adamâs insistence, and he tilted his head slightly, a playful smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
"You really are sweet," he murmured, his voice low and affectionate. He stepped closer, just enough to brush against Adamâs side, his presence once again invading Adamâs space with an almost magnetic pull.
Adam couldnât help but smile, his heart fluttering in his chest as he began to rinse the dishes. This house, this momentâit all felt surreal. A little eerie, a little romantic, and something else entirely, something that made his pulse quicken and his mind race with thoughts he wasnât quite ready to confront.
The air between them thickened with a kind of intensity that left Adam breathless. The kitchen, once filled with playful teasing, now hummed with a palpable tension, something darker and more electric. Adam could feel Luciferâs gaze on him, a warm weight that made his skin prickle and his face flush. Every glance, every lingering second stretched out, charged with an unspoken emotion that hovered between them.
Lucifer, with his golden hair catching the dim light and his sharp eyes smouldering, stepped closer to Adam, closing the space between them with graceful ease. His movements were slow, deliberate, almost predatory. Adam felt his breath hitch in his throat as Luciferâs fingers, cool and soft, brushed against his hand. The touch was gentle but insistent, and before Adam could think to resist, Lucifer was tugging him away from the sink, the warm water and dishes forgotten.
"Leave them," Lucifer whispered, his voice low and velvety, curling around Adam like smoke.
Adam opened his mouth to protest, but before the words could form, Lucifer silenced him in the most unexpected way. His lips pressed against Adamâs in a kiss so soft, so fleeting, that it barely registered at first. The world seemed to still in that moment, time itself pausing as Adamâs wide, startled green eyes locked onto Luciferâs.
Lucifer pulled back slightly, his eyes searching Adamâs face for something, some sign of acceptance or maybe hesitation. His fingers traced a slow, feather-light path up Adamâs arms, leaving a trail of shivers in their wake. Adam, still frozen in shock, felt his heart hammering wildly in his chest, his pulse loud in his ears.
Then, as if finding what he was looking for, Lucifer leaned in again. This time, the kiss was deeper, more deliberate. Their lips moved together, a slow and sensual dance, and Adam found himself instinctively leaning into it. The taste of Lucifer was intoxicatingâdark, rich, with a sweetness that caught Adam off guard. His mind spun, and without realizing it, he was kissing back, his lips parting slightly as their tongues began to explore one another.
The sensation of it, the heat, the closenessâit was overwhelming. Adamâs entire body trembled, a mixture of desire and nervousness flooding his senses. He hadnât expected this, hadnât even imagined it, but now that it was happening, he couldnât pull away. The feeling of Luciferâs hands on him, his lips so confident and teasing, left Adam breathless and wanting more.
Lucifer broke the kiss just long enough to whisper against Adamâs lips, his breath warm and full of temptation.
"Itâs late," he murmured, his voice low and persuasive, each word sending a shiver down Adamâs spine. "You should stay the night."
Adamâs heart raced; his chest tight with the weight of his pounding pulse. He tried to speak, tried to form some coherent response, but all that came out was a soft, breathless murmur. His mind was a whirlwind of conflicting emotions, his body betraying him with its eager trembling.
"Please," Lucifer added softly.
His voice laced with something almost vulnerable, as if the devil himself was asking for something more than just a kiss. His hand tightened gently around Adamâs, his thumb brushing across his knuckles in a tender, reassuring motion.
Adamâs resolve crumbled. His lips parted, but the only sound that escaped was a soft exhale, and with a shy nod, he surrendered to the moment. Luciferâs lips curled into a satisfied smile, one that was as wicked as it was tender, before he leaned in again, claiming Adamâs lips once more with a kiss that promised much more than just a night.
The following morning would be first of many mornings where Adam was served fresh pancakes.

Hello! Iâm the person who sent the anon ask about making more detailed case files and I wrote one for Grain. So here it is!
-Subject 001 case file-
-Description-
Subject 001 is a 5 foot and 3 inch tall British male with dirty blonde hair. As is commonplace with most of the subjects in Watcher Labs the testing process has come with side effects that resulted in a change in its appearance. Since testing started the subjectâs eyes changed from their dark brown shade to a brighter purple. Along with this, parts of Subject 001âs hair have turned the same bright purple shade and it has gained purple markings on its face and limbs. A purple streak comes out right below each of its eyes and purple lines run up its arms and legs. Just like all of the test subjects, its number is tattooed onto its neck in black ink.
-Testing and Containment Procedures-
When not in testing Subject 001 is to be kept in a cell at the far end of the main containment area with Subject 014. Ever since the subjects of Watcher Labs were separated into more cells after the incident in which Subject 005 was nearly killed by 001 after it lured a Mob 001 specimen   to it, Subject 001 has kept to itself. Before the incident the subject was known to be fond of Subjects 005, 0013, and 0016. Since the incident Subject 001 one is to be kept away from Subject 005 at all times.Â
During testing 001 is only to be given anesthesia if it has mimicked an ability which is shown by its purple markings glowing. If it has not mimicked a power then it will only be strapped in place and if necessary sedated. If 001 refuses to be tested on then guards have full permission to use sedatives and brute force to bring it in. If 001 fights back then guards can use tasers to decommission it, they should only use weapons in the worst case scenario.
-Abilities, Statistics, and State Of Health-
Due to testing Subject 001 gained the ability to mimic the abilities of other subjects. When mimicking one of the other subjects 001âs purple markings glow. Due to its ability it is to be kept away from Subjects 009, 012, and 018 at all times.
Former Name - Grian Xelqua
Threat Level - 3
Casualties Caused - 0
Researcher(s) In Charge Of Testing - Dr. Scratch, Dr. Zodiac, and Dr. Ink
Status - Alive
Physical Health - Surviving
Date Of Next Test - Not Yet Determined
-File Image-
File image has not been taken yet. Will be taken soon.
This is so cool!! I like all your little theories youâve added in!
And I noticed a couple of familiar names for the researchers in charge of Grianâs testing đ Perhaps Iâll put in a couple reoccurring names in my asks/comments as a little Easter egg lol
I think I said this when you sent me that first ask, but Iâd like to make a bigger post that explains exactly how everyoneâs powers work and more information on the characters themselves. That wonât be until after everyone is revealed, though.

Planet Alades is a custom neighborhood with ALIENS ONLY!
Hardly anyone in this galaxy knows that Planet Alades even exists⊠Therefore it's a safe space for those whose home planets collapsed because of climate change, meteors or foreign invasions. As the inhabitants come from all different species and cultures, they have to stay open-minded and at least tolerate each other.
Neighborhood presentation on Youtube My gameplay series on Planet Alades

There are 6 households on Planet Alades:
Zoyvi A royal family of planet Elaganda. Maloya was the queen of her home planet, so here in this new land she's happy to be the Mayor. Her husband Unifu is an excellent architect who designed all the buildings on the planet.
Damaga A very powerful species of vampire-witches from planet Oppsnoxx. Their only weakness is a constant desire for woohoo... and the presence of sunlight.
Naikeman The asexual, non-binary species of PlantSims from planet Naike. They produce excellent fruits and vegetables and sell them in their store, providing most of the food for the whole community.
Yven Their home planet Repta was a desert, so the only flora they knew were succulents. Here on Planet Alades, they discover so many beautiful plants and would love to harvest good produce of their own. They're extremely envious of the Naikemans and their green thumbs.
Okm They still can't wrap their head around the idea that all the other species on this planet have a body part called eyes. And they can use it to experience their surroundings in a new dimension, additionally to hearing, smell, taste and touch? Back on planet Querty, no one had ever heard about it. This family consists of a doctor and a scientist, so it's extremely important to the entire community. They're very friendly and easygoing as well and their doors are always open to visitors.
Rojin Vateeg is the only specimen of his kind that survived the destruction of planet Mubic. As a former warrior in the worst intergalactic war of the Universe, he just wants to rest peacfully in his new home.
DOWNLOAD (MF)
There's also a Polish version!
In the folder there's a document with a list of mods that can help maintaining the no-earth-humans policy of this planet. It's located very far away from Earth, so there's no way humans can get there. Well, at least not on their own. I put a tiny easter egg regarding Maloya, but you have to resurrect her parents and see their bios to figure it out. I edited nearly all NPCs to look at least a little bit cosmic, I worked hard to keep it as human-free as possible. Only the Social Worker and the Unsavory Charlatan haven't been edited (although they can be, as we now know from April Black's video). Note: the burglar hasn't been spawned yet in this neighborhood, so I recommend quickly changing that Sim into a vampire with the Sim Transformer. They work nights, right?
Other than that, the neighborhood is CC-free! Might include Store content though.
Enjoy!

Why and how did you come up with the design of The Beard?
(your mascot of course)
Gather round, children, for a tale of Mystery, Wonder, and The Weird Stuff One Does At 2AM! Though Iâm suspicious a number of you are already authorities on that last one⊠đ€š
Before âThe Beardâ became an RE staple, âThe Beardâ was a short horror film concocted one autumn at Ithaca College. A student-run horror film festival was fast approaching and, two days from its submission deadline, Nate and I decided we wanted to enter a film of our own.
There were traditionally only two types of horror films screened: blood-and-guts slasher extravaganzas, and arthouse shorts where capitalism and existential dread comprised the bulk of the scares. We wanted to try for a third option: something fun and shlocky, a nonlethal monster movie with a sense of humor. And so, at 2am that night, we dug through our meager costume supplies, looking for the most absurd monster mask we could find.
All we managed to summon was a familiar, shabby yellow wig.

Not only did the short perform well at the film festival (and it even got a rerelease years later on RE with a new soundtrack!), it led us to develop new concepts further exploring The Beard, such as a web game and a recurring cameo on another series. A longer sequel was even tossed around, which depicted The Beardâs origins as an escaped lab specimen, as well as his chaotic war against other destructive abominations a la âFreddy vs. Jasonâ and âAlien vs. Predator.â Though we ultimately abandoned the sequel, the character persisted.
Eventually, Singachu came along, and with it the opportunity to smuggle in some self-absorbed in-jokes and easter eggs for our newly-developed video game musical series, RANDOM ENCOUNTERS. Hiding The Beard amongst some Pokemon could easily have been a one-off oddity, but fans found this quirky creature intriguing. By his third or fourth cameo, Encounterers had become invested in The Beard and his inexplicable presence in each musical.
Aside from The Beardâs alleged obsession with watching reruns of House, concrete lore remains slim. A short featurette (âGlimpse Into The Beardâ) was our sole answer to the growing questions surrounding him, providing only the barest of insight into our enigmatic mascot. After all, a timeline-hopping, multiversal entity is better suited to a flexible existence (one free of pesky concepts like âcontinuityâ and âcanon.â)
Despite having little to no apparent connection to either video games or musical numbers, The Beard has become an iconic representative of the harmless nonsense and wholesome antics REâs videos (and community) embody. We canât say for sure what will come next for him; only that it will most assuredly be a very random encounter. â€ïž

On the Pirate Homeworld in Metroid Prime 3, scanning an empty specimen tank reveals the Space Pirates have just obtained a ânewly discovered strainâ of Metroid from their homeworld of SR388.
Cute Easter egg, or deliberate foreshadowing for Metroid II/Samus Returns - implying that SR388 isnât as Metroid-free as it seemed at the time, and there are new forms of Metroid that Samus has yet to encounter?

Imagine if we actually measured ourselves in apples. The gov would make an average size of apple sometime in the 70s when everything was being automated, but it would have to stay the shape of an apple. To hold up the cultural status quo, they would have to paint the apples, even purposefully making some a little crooked to add to the Appleness. Some of the cheap ones for schools are printed, or shrink-wrapped like those wood Easter eggs. But the really important ones, those are hand painted to mimic an actual apple specimen. Thereâs always been a thing like âis it cakeâ, but instead itâs a question of if itâs an actual apple. We still eat apples normally, but itâs customary to make sure that itâs an apple before biting into it. In fact I think apples would be a dime a dozen, to the point that theyâre on the same necessity level as water and shelter. You can have your kids taken away if they donât have at least one apple a week, but in some rural places itâs a longer span (like Inuit settlements or homesteads). Thereâs even different measurements for different kinds of apples, since some are bigger/smaller. Catfishing by telling someone a smaller variety of apples and lying abt it. Obviously people are allergic to apples, but in that case itâs treated like vegan foodâthereâs a lot of apple substitutes, including one that is actually a steak made to taste like an apple. Giving a teacher an apple is held in respect and high regard, because teaching children humility about the valued resources and properly paying teachers. Yes, this would make teachers higher esteem, purely because of the association. Thereâs even a subculture of apple zodiac, based on what yearly turn of apple species it is (sort of like how France names their pets with one letter a year).
If you read that all, Iâm sorry. But also thank you.

monster 4
i love m4 thank you
(The use of he/him for Monster 4 may be temporary. I have no idea what pronouns this silly would use. Honestly, anything but it/its would probably do. ) So I got the DLC TEX folder. The png files for Monster 4's death screen. Got nothing more than what I got when I first saw it and looked thoroughly through every frame. The reason why I'm mentioning this at the beginning of Monster 4's headcanon post will be explained at the bottom of the post after an edit. But here's what I have for him:
Dude's kind of miserable. He was doing alright in the tranquility of... well, nothingness before the Protagonist awaken his mind and his stomach muscles with the sound of rattling keys. His chase sequence is equivalent of a stabbed man running for an ambulance. Bad comparison when it happens in a cursed hospital in a cursed mansion, but you get the picture. Every second he's conscious, he suffers from an unquenchable hunger (LiV reference???). Every second when the hunger is slightly more manageable, he suffers from a number of conflicting emotions: guilt, fear of feeling worse again, fear of remembering shit he does not want to remember, fear of forgetting who he is, fear of the hospital environment and fear of what's outside the hospital. But right now, he's doing surprisingly well cleaning after the other hospital inhabitants.
Canonically a gamer:
I would imagine he's immune to horror games but does not have a preference towards them. He plays Slime Rancher and Amnesia with the same amount of casual enthusiasm. This fucker is so dedicated and curious that he'll spend hours exploring useless corners so he experiences everything the game has to offer. Gets mad at letsplayers when they miss secret endings/easter eggs or misinterpret lore.
Extreme pain tolerance in every part of his body except for the digestive system and brain. Either everything else seems like papercuts by comparison or that in some way he's half-dead. He's still stuck in the mindset that he is fully alive and human, albeit mutilated. It's not that he isn't aware of what vaguely happened to him, but that he reacts to the other horrific shit that goes on in the mansion like he doesn't eat people and that death is something that can still happen to him.
Eats everything that's SOFT enough. That is to say, he will not eat glass shards. Nor hard rocks. Nor tables. Nor an entire killer whale without taking time to cut it into pieces. Nor any type of weapon for that matter. Favorite food is raw red meat (beef, pork and lamb) and grilled potatoes and yam. Drinks (what he believes is) water like a healthy person.
"Rex" began when Bekka pointed out the similarities between his roar and that of a T Rex's. He's fine with this. Dinosaurs are kind of cool.
He's currently learning to knit. Wearing the same oversized patient gown is not super convenient. (Specimen 6: "Where the fuck did my needle go")
So. Regarding a more concrete backstory: I have no clue. The entire issue originates from his death screen. Most enemies have a small amount of intelligible information for my brain to form a character background out of. But God, Kira needs to tell me what details in M4's death screen is serious or simple easter eggs or making fun of this type of communicating lore to the community. This fella's death screen has no need to look like it came straight out of an ARG. Why is there a QR code that takes me to a quote site. What does this mean? Why are there so many text that I can barely decipher. All this made me feel like I'm missing something when constructing how this guy came into being in my head. Probably around the lines of being a hospital patient, getting influenced by Monster 5, eating his family then attempting to off himself and failing (somewhat). That's the general consensus in the SJSM community, but just from that death screen I still feel that's not enough. A dark/hj part of me is telling me Monster 4 might be like Specimen 9, something based on a real event or some bullshit just because his death screen is so packed with things that suggest secrets but are impossible to solve, at least for me. I don't even know. Here's some screenshots I want to talk about:
What is that B&W background?? A flower??? A brain????
This is interesting because it's similar to Nurse Tanaka's note. Might just be a reference to Monster 5's influence, which affects nearly every Karamari Hospitel character, so I don't know if this is anything important.
What interested me most is the family photo. The contrast and distortions are too high for me to find out the source for the original image of this photo, but it looks quite real. Could be a random stock image or something else. I honestly don't know. If you happen to find the original image and the context behind it, please send it to me. Thanks. This post is getting too long and I spent my whole afternoon on it.

If your OCs have a story quest just like in Genshin or HSR
What would it be about and would it need more than 1 part or not?
// HI, it's so funny thing I don't really uhhh play wither of those??? But if they had little side quests, I could offer those. Since I imitate NPC behavior. I won't list them all, but I have a selective few at my hand. As for stories, I'm not that good at them, sorry.
Pearce Whittaker - Probably a gatherer of various exotic fruits and flowers. Multiple areas to explore for hidden items sooo... Probably 2 for fruits and flowers. Might give the player recipes for exchange.
Ebenezer Allard - A practitioner who is interested in science and medicine. I like to think if... for whatever reason as it may, he learns about various cases. Maybe something like finding specimen for him to subject on or to bring him samples to study via serum. Could be a guy who is willing to discount healing items if completed.
Amanda MacGurk - A lady who plays dirty. I like to think her quests demand you to interrogate / threaten any clients she finds scummy on her behalf. Probably only one part, but if you did manage to beat all of the diet bags in her local area, she MAY or may not help you in your cause as a fighter.
Cain Connors - My RPG OC! Now, I don't have much to say other than originally he is on his own mission to find his best friend Abelia. Buuut! If the player saved his best friend from some thugs and returned her safely to him. I think he'd be forever grateful. Maybe a part 2 where he asks for you to find my friends other RPG OCs within a specific time limit. He might give you something in return for rekindling his friendships.
Ignace Proloux - Honestly, just doing his work for him. He would probably give you a big payout despite himself being a lazy ass. Feels like later on, he has new objectives for players to revisit if they like. Think of him as a figurative bounty board.... or a bulletin board of job listing đđ
ALU - Big fox demon. Now, normally, I'd say, taking over the world, BUT, I like to think if, in essence, the player can use spells and charms; Alu would like to them to impress him with their knowledge on the spells. (Especially if their upgradable). If you master all the spells and charms, he could give you the ability to summon him as a lil surprise easter egg.
// There's probably more ocs I haven't done, but these are the only ones bouncing around in my head right now. Hope this gives some sort of answer despite being half baked.

Dinosaur Easter Surprise Eggs

Couple years ago I saw Kinder eggs with Jurassic World art on the cover. I was immediately flooded with nostalgic memories of Easter Surprise Eggs. Heck yeah, dinosaur eggs! Imagine my disappointment when I got home and instead of a dinosaur toy I got a fidget spinner. You advertise dinosaurs on the cover and you give me a fidget spinner?! I want my money back!
Surprise eggs aren't what they used to be. Yeah, even back in my childhood there were the cheap ones that has shitty prizes like stickers and Kinder, as much as I loved the chocolate, was a gamble; sometimes you'd get an awesome toy like a little tin knight on a horse and sometimes you got a mini jigsaw puzzle. But then there were the Big Eggs that were guaranteed to have a specific kind of toy in them. They were about twice as big as Kinders and, unlike Kinder, the chocolate was tasteless, waxy junk. But I still wasted so much pocket money on them.
For two or three years there was a Big Egg with dinosaurs. It had an unimaginative name, "Dinosaurus" or "Dinosaurs" or similar, so I'll have no luck trying to find info about this line. It had an orange wrapper with two dinosaurs on it. One of them had just laid an egg and looked like she was either embarrassed about the situation or in pain after laborous egg laying. Here's my best attempts to recreate the wrapper

The dinosaurs in this egg were made of rubber that was quite sturdy but still somewhat movable. Though some batches were stiffer than others. The base colour of the plastic was either green, yellow or orange and sometimes you could get a dino that was just this base colour but more often there was another colour on the dinosaur's back. The highlighting colours were these:
For green base: white, purple, blue.
For yellow base: light green, orange, purple, dark pink
For orange base: red, olive green, pink, purple
These dinosaur molds have been used many times for other toys and erasers but I'm only interested in the ones that come in these specific colour combinations. Everything else is fakies for me.

The very first dino egg I got had the green and white plesiosaurus in it. My sister got the exact same one. It always annoyed me when batches of eggs weren't mixed well in factories and you ended with lots of the same surprise next to each other. Once there was an animal themed egg that I bought from the same store one egg every day and ended up with like ten horses because their batch was all horses.

I don't know if it's possible for all the dinosaurs to come in all the colour variations since some of them seem to heavily prefer some colours. For the longest time I thought this spiky ankylosaur-like creature only came in yellow-dark pink combo but I have now seen a picture of a green and white one.

Until I find a specimen that proofs me wrong, I think dimetrodon only comes in base colours without highlight. I assume the sail might make spraying the paint evenly difficult.

I was very surprised when I got an ichtyosaur as a kid. Despite being in every dinosaur book, these animals were rarely seen as toys back in my childhood. My childhood one (which I lost unfortunately) was a green and white one and it was the only ichtyosaur toy I ever had.
When I showed these to my wife, she thought they were dolphins.

My absolute favourites, the lambeos. Lambeosaurus was my favourite crested hadrosaur but I never saw any toys of them for sale. To be fair, there aren't that many figures of them for sale these days either. Parasaurolophus keeps stealing the stage as the Token Hadrosaur. These were my only lambi toys as a kid.

I expected the usual non-dinosaurid animals to be in the eggs, such as dimetrodons, pterosaurs and mosasaurs but mammoths being included kinda surprised me. I had a yellow and light green one that I've lost.

These mosasaurs were some of my favourites. They had great playability; you could snake their bodies and tails to make them swim, flap their flippers and chomp their jaws to have them attack their prey. I still often keep them by my laptop as fidget toys. The mold seems to occasionally differ at the jaws, sometimes they are given teeth, sometimes just a tongue. I consider all mold variants to be acceptable as long as they come in the right colour combos.

I remember vividly the time I got my green and purple pteranodon. I went to R-Kioski, local corner store, with my sister to buy chocolate eggs. She picked one with jewelry inside, I picked the dino egg. We pretended to be an archaeologist and a paleontologist digging for treasure and finding ancient jewelry and a miraculously survived dinosaur egg. I love pterosaurs so I was overjoyed to have one hatch from my egg.

I had a green and purple T-rex as a kid but I lost it. I liked that these also had an open mouth that you could use to bite other dinos.

The stego mold isn't my favourite, it's very basic, but I'm happy to have managed to gather three different variants. The yellow and light green one is from my childhood collection.

The trike mold is the weakest in my opinion, it's supposed to be always viewed from profile so you don't notice that they've molded the two horns together into a single unicorn horn.
Besides easter eggs, I've seen these molds and these colours come out as toys under other names. There used to be a guy who sold them on eBay in plastic jars under the name Tim-Mee Dinosaurs (...misnamed, since these are in fact not Tim-Mee Dinosaurs) but they're gone now. I've seen Imperial sell them on card, either with each dino in its own bubble or together in one big bubble. I took a screenshot of one so that I can remember the packaging.

Unfortunately someone else bought this one before I could arrange someone in the US get it for me (curse you, US only shippers). It had the green and purple T-rex of my childhood, a green and white ankylosaur and, most importantly, a variant of lambi that I don't yet have.
Because of the many colour variants, this series gives me a lot to collect but it's also very frustrating to eBay hunt for. The surprise egg didn't have a distinct name, it's been several decades since they came out, they're small and cheap so a lot of kids probably threw theirs away instead of selling them at flea markets and there's only so many pages of searches of "small rubber dinosaur" that one can endure before growing tired. But I will keep my hope up that I'll be able to expand my collection some day.

With this gem from the Königliche Porzellanmanufaktur Berlin, we wish you all a Happy Easter! The custom of giving each other ornately decorated Easter eggs at Easter was cultivated at the Prussian court at least since the 1820s, as we know from letters. This precious specimen dates from the end of the 19th century and shows Potsdam's New Palace.

Lost in Vivo is a first-person psychological horror by Akuma Kira (the creator of Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion - another horror game). I'm a big fan of horror and psychological games, but this one I love mainly for its lore! The lore about Specimen 8 and Bayagototh spans over 2 games. It's what inspired me to start worldbuilding!
Book of Hours could theoretically be considered a management game... I think. It's by the developers of Cultist Simulator, and you basically restore a library and protect it from the weather and the occasional eldrich assault. Cultist Simulator is great imho, but it's also very nice to just relax with your pet and read some occult books. And Cultist Simulator is much harder - some runs can comfortably be referred to as the Dark Souls of card games. It is what the title says, but there's so much to look out for...
And I completely agree with you on the UT and DR fandom being obsessive and often inappropriate. For the 6 years I've been in that Amino, I've had countless people attempting to do NSFW chats with me (I think a guy tried to add me to his harem once), which discouraged me from interacting with anyone... but I did find my partner there.
Personally, I go wild over the lore in both games (I'm an avid lover of deeply hidden stuff in games, as is probably evident). The fact that there are multiple hours worth of videos covering all secrets and easter eggs warms my heart!
I'm sorry I couldn't help myself-
My favorite games include but are not limited to Book of Hours, Cultist Simulator, The Binding of Isaac, Lost in Vivo, and Undertale and Deltarune
Ooooo those are fun!!!! I've never heard of Book of hours or lost in vivo. I've heard of cultist simulator but never actually looked into it much, but the art looks amazing. Undertale and delta rune are fine, good games, but the level of obsession in some parts of the fandom kinda drove the series into the ground for me. All awesome choices tho!

something thatâs infinitely driven me insane since childhood was this one frame (at the 9:36 timestamp of the video here) from Markiplierâs playthrough of Spookyâs House of Jumpscares during the Specimen 12 sequence where there was this body hanging from the ceiling for like 3 frames before it disappeared. but the odd thing is that when i try and look up anything regarding it, i find absolutely nothing. not even on the wiki can i find anything. i have no idea if this was something edited into the video post-production or if it was a genuine rare easter egg from older versions of the game. i go insane every time i think about it.
